Portland cement is a fine powder, and when combined with water, forms a stone-like mass called paste. When the paste is added to aggregates (sand and gravel or crushed stone) it acts as an adhesive and binds the aggregates together to form concrete, the worlds most widely used construction material. Portland cements are hydraulic cements composed of hydraulic calcium silicates and is produced by pulverizing portland-cement clinker.
Portland cement is specifically produced for use as the key ingredient in ready mixed concrete, mortar, grout, masonry units, and in a wide array of applications such as concrete pipe, pre-stressed concrete, roads, foundations, bridges, soil stabilization, and more.
Type I/II Portland cement is Type II cement that also meets the less restrictive Type I requirements. It is suitable for use when either type is specified.
